Wedding boots.....

Description

Finally (almost) finished the boots I was working on for my future husband's wedding attire.

They are special in many ways!

For one, his mother passed away many years ago and one of the things they had put into storage were quite alot of dried caribou leg skins, she had carefully taken care of them and collected them during the one time of year they are "good". He took them out and gave them to me to use. It took me and and another woman more than a week to soften them and tan them, since they were so old and dried. I find it fitting that something of her will be there.

For another....it was my first time making this type of boot. I learned A LOT! I am planning on making more pairs later on, but I put MANY hours and blood (literally) into these boots. But I am very proud of them!

For another...well they are for our wedding! we want to be dressed in traditional Inupiaq Eskimo wear, so it makes me so happy that it will come together. I am currently working on a pair of boots fro myself, made from white wolf leg skins.

The graphic design at the top of the boot is a "qupak" design, which tells where a man hunts. This pattern is actually a Tree pattern (even though it kinda looks like "Z's") because his family is one of the few that are close to the tree line.

The materials used are: caribou leg skin, leather, calf skin, and moose skin.

Thanks for looking!
