Weapon.... by EskimoScrybe Weapon.... by EskimoScrybe
This is a polar bear claw and walrus ivory capped pendant. I scrimshawed it with ancient Inupiaq eskimo designs.

I love this one! I found the claw tucked in the back of my ivory drawer, hiding!

This is such a lovely piece. I truly wish that I could bring one of these home to live with me here in this very different land.

That looks beautiful! The pattern suits the shape of the claw really well.
(On your etsy link there's a photo of it in your hand, and wow, I didn't imagine the claw was so big. I guess I wouldn't like to meet such a bear...)

Thanks!

And the bear was huge! They are doubly scary because they are not very afraid of humans at all!

oh cool .I gave it a go once on a Bone pendant i made just a simple design for practicing and the Ink i used was Kuro sumi tattooing ink and this just soaked and stained a lot of the bone and showed up all the pores. Is it always this way on bone or did i use the wrong ink ? sorry i sound daft most probably but ive never done skrimshaw work .

Here is a tutorial I did on scrimshawing:[link]

With bone you need to seal the surface first before scrimshawing. The type of ink should be waterproof or water resistant and lightfast.
