I find this absolutely gorgeous and very... dreamy fairytale like.

The polar bear fur goes well with the horn, which is reminiscent of a narwhal.

I would totally buy that.

You know, I'm not usually the type to comment on a DD. I always love to go and check out the DD page every now and then to see what beautiful things people have come up with. Admiring them in my silence, usually favoring and going on my merry way. From beaded beautiful artwork,Photography, Photo manipulations, to paintings, to digital art, to paperweights, to sculptures made out of pumpkins and incredible little things like chalk pastels that were carved.
I have always admired beaded work, and it is so hard and takes so long in my personal opinion.

This is so beautiful, even by looking at it you can tell that it has so much love, so much hardship, and so much soul put into it. I wish I could be able to see it in person, but I'd be too afraid to hold it in my hands due to how fragile and perfect it looks hahaha!

This is a well deserved daily deviation I'd have to say in my personal opinion. It's so gentle, so calming, and so very beautiful. It has so much to say in its delicate silence and so much effort and story behind it all on its own.
All of my respect and gratitude goes out to you today, thank you for having the courage and appreciation to put this work up to show the world these amazing things you make. Thank you.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to write this beautiful comment!

I'm always so immensely happy when someone can see what I see in these pieces, the Arctic is so delicately beautiful to me even though I quite partial to it!

Take care and stay warm :)

i know its pretty, and very well crafted, and its certainly a nice piece of art, i wont deny that... but there are tons of other deviations that deserve a DD.
i just think they shouldnt be given out willy-nilly like faves

every piece deserves the chance for a DD. Tomorrow is another day, and there will be more deviations chosen, thus the naming of Daily Deviations.

Little pieces like this are often overlooked, and are deserving of attention. This is a beautiful piece. Someone took the time to make this beautiful piece, and are proud enough to show it to the public.

Not all Daily Deviations have to be a painting or a drawing, or something done on a computer. Art is are whether it is something to hang on a wall, something to sit on a desk, or even something to put in your hair or pin to a jacket. There are all kinds of forms, whether you agree with them or not. There are plenty of pieces out there that deserve attention as well, I agree with that. Let everyone have their chance. Tomorrow is another day.

and i get that. i get that every piece deserves to be given the chance of a DD, but thats just it: a chance. even art that nobody likes deserves a chance, if you want to put it in those terms.
if its attention, though, that someone wants/needs, then there should be something else for that. another kind of feature. i always thought that the point of DDs was a kind of award, to let you know that the quality and effort and time that you put into a piece was worth it.
i know that not all daily deviations have to be a painting or a drawing or something done on a computer and all that. i know. i just dont get why a tiny piece like this, which (realistically and honestly speaking here) could be found in an arts and crafts store, deserves a DD. its not out of the ordinary, really, has no *pop* or super special quality to it, other than it has a bone and some hair.
im still reserving my opinion that daily deviations are like an award or whatever, and not just something to be handed out at random like a goody-bag. :/

I am quite confused by your ambivalence as to what constitutes a piece of art that is deserving of a DD. You stated previously that while you agree this is a nice piece of art, there are other deviations that deserve a DD-- do you not realize that all those deviations have a chance at becoming a DD as well? DD's are given out every day, and will continue to be given out, it is not as if these other pieces of art don't have a chance at being picked eventually.

Why is it that other art deserves a chance of a DD, but yet this one doesn't? Art embodies many forms, from paintings and sculptures, to "arts and crafts" pieces such as this. What makes this piece interesting is it is made with fur scraps that come from a species that is under threat-- not something you see every day. Besides, art is subjective-- a piece that may have no "pop" to one person, maybe have "pop" to another, because it piques their personal interests. For example, I chose to view this piece, because I was intrigued by the use of polar bear fur, something I have never seen used in a piece before. Why did you decide to view this piece?

I would like to add that you would not find this in any crafts store. Because my people are one of the few people that are allowed to work with polar bear fur. This fur is from a polar bear that my husband harvested because it was trying to stalk and kill him. Really an impressive story on it's own. We used the meat and then used the rest of him for winter gear to fight -90 degree winters. My jewelry is made using the tiny bits that are scraps. We don't throw anything away and we use it all.

But you also do not understand that DD's are given by individuals with certain tastes for art. They are not awards. They are a brief recognitions of a personal interest. They are opinions. The longer you are here the longer you will see this. You will not like or favorite or even understand every single DD given, and I think it a bit odd that you should believe that you are entitled to have to. And judging by your own gallery you have a very specific taste...and opinion. The purpose of a DD is to introduce you to something else. Perhaps something different. t least this is why I visit the DD page everyday. Because I might learn to appreciate something that I do not understand.

I am grateful for the DD's, because it means that for a fleeting moment someone else thought it was as special as I think it is. Nothing more...nothing less.

i find that story rather interesting, and i think that you should include it in the description to add that kind of a personal touch to the piece.
i do not in any way think that im entitled to enjoy a DD. i just think that they shouldnt be thrown around like a complimentary cookie. i apologize if you were offended in any way by anything ive said, but ive made my peace, and ill leave it at that.

No worries!

If I included everything in the description it would literally be a book! I like it when people ask questions both on my pieces or on my journal where I talk about the specific materials.

Personally I think we should all get complimentary cookies....ah.....life would be grand....

Because the way you were saying it, you were practically spitting in the face of the artist and implying that all their time and effort isn't worth the commendation they received, which is rude in the first place.

The DD isn't someone wanting/asking for attention. It is someone getting recognition they deserve. You may see bone and fur that 'any' craft store may have, but let me say this: How many times have you seen one with REAL bone and REAL fur? Probably none. This has a special quality to it, for the authenticity of the materials, and the beauty of the object itself.

So please, if you can't be nice about it, don't comment.

please tell me, when exactly did i say that the DD was someone wanting/asking attention? c:
also, i was just pointing out that perhaps something else could have been chosen. nothing more. i cant help the fact that i just dont agree with something, just like you might not agree with something else, like, oh gee, i dunno another DD, maybe? c:

That's what you are missing. Someone did work hard on this piece. Even though it is small, there was effort put into this, and the Daily Deviation was given as a reward for that hard work. So what if you can find this at a store, so what if the materials can be bought. They were put together in a special fashion. This artist thought about what they were going to do. They apparently had a vision for this piece (thus why it's even in existence).

Not everything has to have something that pops. The delicacy of this piece is what brings attention to it. It is a simple yet intricate piece.

I understand that everyone has their opinions. And I understand that not all people will agree with what has been chosen for a DD. But if you have nothing constructive to say, then move on.
